Dr Kleinschmidt is a Sports Medicine doctor who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries that arise from both competitive and non-competitive exercise. He also treats personal medical conditions that may impact on an individual’s ability to exercise.

Since graduation from medicine in 1991, Sandy has undergone post graduate training in Radiology (including musculoskeletal ultrasound), General Practice and Sports Medicine.

He is currently a senior registrar in the Australasian College of Sport & Exercise Physicians specialist training scheme.

In 2022, Dr Kleinschmidt published his research into the How Effective Are Non-Operative Intra-Articular Treatments for Bone Marrow Lesions in Knee Osteoarthritis in Adults: A Systematic Review of Controlled Clinical Trials.

His areas of interest are conservative management of osteoarthritis, concussion, groin pain and exercise prescription for chronic disease health. Dr Kleinschmidt is certified to perform commercial and recreational diving medicals.

As part of his practice Dr Kleinschmidt can perform point of care musculoskeletal ultrasound to aid in the diagnosis and management of sports/ musculoskeletal injuries

Dr Kleinschmidt's overall aim is to provide an accurate diagnosis and management plans to enhance the individuals return to sport, physical performance and ultimately, a healthier active lifestyle.

Currently, Dr Kleinschmidt also provides Sports Medicine education for Sports Medicine Australia (SA Branch) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
